At the end of the 19th century, some Armenians in New Nakhichevan immigrated to Lugansk, and then the colony was replenished from Western Armenia. They were mainly engaged in craft and trade.

In 1885, local Armenians applied to the diocese of New Nakhichevan and Bessarabia to build a parish home and a parish school, and appoint a permanent clergyman.

In 1887 Synod decided to transfer the construction of the prayer house to the attention of the highest spiritual authority. In 1889, ward members rented a territory for the prayer house and at the same time appointed a permanent priest in Lugansk.

May 18, 1911 the Diocese applied to Synod with a request to obtain permission to purchase a prayer house, and in early 1912 received a positive response.

In 1911, from the property of the house of prayer, funds were provided for the creation of the school. However, due to lack of resources and a small number of people in the community it was impossible to realize this idea. During the Soviet Union, the prayer house was privatized. After Ukraine’s independence, a public structure was created in Lugansk.

On September 8, 2001, as part of the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity in Armenia, the new church was consecrated. The construction was completed in 2005.
