The first Armenian Church in Kharkov functioned from 1901 to 1938 and was the center of the public life of the Armenian Diaspora in Kharkov. In 1938 the Church was closed.
On July 1, 2000 the first 16 holy stones were laid in the foundation of the new Armenian Church of St. Harutyun. On August 24, 2004 the Church was blessed by the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.
Sunday school operates under the Church where children obligatorily study history of the Armenian Church, mother tongue and traditions.
