Jerusalem Patriarchate

Autonomous Patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The Armenian Patriarch in Jerusalem has the rank of archbishop and recognizes the spiritual authority of the Catholicos of all Armenians. The residence of the Jerusalem Patriarch of Jerusalem is located in the historical district of Jerusalem – the Armenian quarter of the Old City (St. Jacob’s Cathedral).

The patriarchate is run by the Armenian churches of Israel (in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Ramla and Haifa) and Jordan. Until 1930, the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem had dioceses in Lebanon and Syria, but after the Armenian genocide in Turkey, in order to preserve the institution of the Cilicia Catholicosate of the Armenian Apostolic Church, these dioceses were temporarily transferred to the Catholicos of Cilicia at the request of the Catholicos of all Armenians.
