Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church
The Armenian diocese in Lviv was founded in 1364 by the decree of the Catholicos of all Armenians of Mesrop I. Three years later it was approved by decree of the Polish king Casimir the Great. Thus, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lviv became the cathedral and the diocesan center of all Armenians of Russia, Wallachia and Moldova.
After the Armenian church ceased to exist in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century, and all the functioning churches were closed, the eparchy also stopped its activities and existence.
In September 1991, the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church was formed by the decision of the Catholicos of All Armenians of Vazgen I. The center of the diocese was Lviv. On November 28, 1991, the diocese was officially renewed and registered.
On January 13, 1997, according to the Kontakion of the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin I, the Ukrainian Diocese received canonical recognition.
